Nick George - HITZ Officer
I have been involved with the HITZ programme for 12 months, having previously worked on the award-winning Bright Sparks programme. I passionately believe in the power of sport to engage young people and help them to make positive choices. In my spare time I enjoy playing sports and catching up with friends.
Ben Woolfson - Tutor
Hello, my name is Ben Woolfson and I am the Tutor for the Bristol Bears HITZ programme. This is my first year working for the Bears and I have already noticed the positive impact that the programme has on the youth of Bristol. This is done through the wide range of exciting activities on offer which have helped students develop their confidence and learn vital teamwork skills.
I have a history of football coaching for a variety of clubs in the UK and America plus teaching Physical Education in secondary schools. I am excited to help this programme grow from strength to strength and support the learners in earning their qualifications. Outside of HITZ I enjoy going running, playing football and watching my favourite team Tottenham!
Laura Wright - Support Coordinator
Hi, I’m Laura, I have been working on the Hitz programme for over a year and love what the HITZ programme stands for. I have had a varied career studying Art and working in Retail before to moving into education. I have 8 years’ experience of working on various Education & Training programmes which support in changing lives from adults to young persons, no matter how big or small. Hitz is a very rewarding programme and the range of enrichment activities that the participants get to experience is brilliant. It is definitely a great programme to be a part of and support all of the Premiership Rugby Hitz programmes.
In my spare time I enjoy going to Rugby and Netball games, spending time with family, friends, visiting new places in both the UK and abroad and I love watching Friends TV show!
Harry - Bristol Bears HITZ
Before Harry begun at HITZ he was out of education and spent most of his time online gaming. He had little confidence and little idea of what to do with himself. In under six months attending HITZ Harry became our highest attending student and we have seen a drastic change in his character.
Harry is well on his way to pass his employability course and he feels that he has gained a lot more than just a qualification from the course:
“Coming to HITZ has helped me feel more confident and happier, this is down to all of the amazing opportunities that we are offered. It was brilliant to get free tickets for a match and be able to take my dad along. I also got the chance to visit Sam FM and make a podcast. I really enjoy the social aspect of the course, as I not only get along really well with my tutor and HITZ officer but we also get to meet up with students from other HITZ programmes which gives me a opportunity to make new friends from different cities.”
Harry has been working hard on his employability course which has given him a better idea of what to do in future as well as developing his skills on work experience at the Ashton Gate Stadium.
“The employability course has helped me to get a clear career path, which makes me feel confident about my future. I have also had the chance to work at Ashton Gate Stadium which has helped me to be more organised and into a routine. As well as working in the stadium I was given the chance to compete in a master chef competition which I won! During the course I have developed my CV and learnt tips on applying for jobs which has helped me to gain some weekend work. Overall the course has helped me to do things that I wanted to do before but was unable to do due to my confidence and lack of opportunities”
The HITZ Awards are annual celebration of the hard work put in by countless individuals up and down the country.
With a number of stars and well-known public figures in attendance on the night, it is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements, as well as the personal growth and development of a number of learners, and volunteers.
