HITZ Manager - Joe
Joe has always been inspired by Bath Rugby. Growing up locally and playing the sport, his passion for the sport came at a young age.
He joined the Foundation in 2012 as a coaching apprentice and quickly scaled the ranks as a fully qualified Level 2 Coach in Rugby Union and Multi Skills. Joe currently play for his local rugby club and he is the lead deliverer of the Bath Rugby Foundation’s Employability projects.
"I joined the Foundation because I relate to the nature of its work," Joe said. "It’s a real pleasure to be able to work in my community, helping people to engage and achieve through sport and education. Our inclusion work has a particular place in my heart, as my little brother is autistic and suffers from anxiety. Although there have been difficult times, he always makes me laugh and helps me unwind. He inspires me to be the happiest person I can be and to always be proactive
"My role is to engage young people and guide them back into employment, training or education using sport as a tool. I aim to improve a young person’s confidence, social skills and employability skills and give them the opportunity to go on and shine in whatever they love doing.
"I put together the enrichment and make the course as exciting as possible adding in content such as fitness first, water parks, battle archery, paintball and sport at the beach.
"My aim is to be considered one of the leading community coaches in the country. Inspiring others to follow my path and help create a happier and healthier community in the process."
Tutor - Emily
I joined Bath Rugby HITZ team in April 2019 as the new tutor after previously teaching Physical Education for 3 years around the world.
I had previously volunteered and worked with Bath Rugby Foundation and new the HITZ programme was something I wanted to be a part of. I believe it gives NEET students the opportunity to succeed like no other, due to it’s exciting and individualised delivery.
I am passionate about providing opportunities for everyone and believe the most exciting way to achieve this is through sport. My passion has always and still is sport, including playing rugby in 4 different countries and currently representing Bath Rugby Ladies.
Tutor - Hannah Stephens
I joined Bath Rugby HITZ team in August 2019 as an additional tutor after previously working as a Rugby and Engagement Officer in a school in Neath, Wales and as a Rugby Development Apprentice with the Welsh Rugby Union, where I often worked with children and young people to develop their confidence and resilience.
Within the HITZ team I deliver the Employability Programme, where I provide young people with new and exciting opportunities to gain life skills, interview techniques and qualifications to add to their CV.
Outside of HITZ, I am a proud volunteer coach for Dings Crusaders U15's girls. I have recently joined Bath Ladies Rugby Club, after playing rugby in Wales for 15 years. I am very adventurous and I love going on trips to the beach. I love cooking for my friends and family, my favourite meal to cook is Spaghetti Bolognese and an Apple Crumble for dessert!
Andy joined Bath Rugby Foundation in 2016 as an apprentice with a dodgy haircut and a quiet personality. During his time with the Foundation Andy has grown in confidence and has shown a strong desire to learn.
In his year as an apprentice he went on a leadership award residential, became a Level 2 rugby coach, completed his Level 2 Multi Skills Course and (in his own words) finally got himself a decent haircut.
"The Foundation has been an awesome experience so far. Coming in as an apprentice I knew what the Foundation did but didn’t realise how much of an impact we actually made. Every session we finish everyone leaves with a massive smile or laughing and that’s what I enjoy the most about this job. Being only 19 I’ve still got a lot to learn and that I’m really excited about - the next few years at the Foundation look really positive and I’m glad to be a part of it."
After his year as an apprentice he was offered a full-time job and has gone from strength to strength.
‘My favourite programme is the HITZ course. Most of the participants are only a few years younger than me and some of them being older so can relate really well to them and have a good laugh’
Outside of the Foundation Andy can be found playing rugby for his local team or showing some questionable dance moves during a night out.

Laura Wright - Support Coordinator
Hi, I’m Laura, I have been working on the Hitz programme for over a year and love what the HITZ programme stands for. I have had a varied career studying Art and working in Retail before to moving into education. I have 8 years’ experience of working on various Education & Training programmes which support in changing lives from adults to young persons, no matter how big or small. Hitz is a very rewarding programme and the range of enrichment activities that the participants get to experience is brilliant. It is definitely a great programme to be a part of and support all of the Premiership Rugby Hitz programmes.
In my spare time I enjoy going to Rugby and Netball games, spending time with family, friends, visiting new places in both the UK and abroad and I love watching Friends TV show!
